Helen (Kate Capshaw) runs a book shop in Loblolly Through The Ocean, a little fishing community in Colonial where everybody appears to understand everybody else's business. A 42-year-old single mom, she's psychologically distant and frightened of getting too near to anybody. George (Tom Selleck) has known Helen ever since they were schoolmates, and he's been deeply in love with her for age range, but has always settled just for being her friend. Convinced she wasn't thinking about him, he married another lady years back.
